Alexandre d’Aphrodise et la métaphysique aristotélicienne

A. Balansard, A. Jaulin (Eds.)

"The nine studies in this volume focus on Aristotle’s Commentary on Metaphysics, written at the turn of the second and third centuries by Alexander of Aphrodise. They were prompted by the international conference "Alexander of Aphrodise and Aristotelian Metaphysics", held at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, on June 22, 23 and 24, 2015..

The question of reception constitutes its subject : reception of Metaphysics by Alexander, reception by the later tradition of its exegesis. Alexander’s commentary fixes, in fact, the understanding of Aristotle’s text from the third century on ; it will serve as a reference for all subsequent interpretations, neoplatonic, Arabic and Latin.

These studies highlight the complex relationships between logic, physics, primary philosophy and even ethics, established by Alexander’s commentary. The most disputed question is that of the use made of the Catégories.

The nine studies are authored : Cristina Cerami, Riccardo Chiaradonna, Michel Crubellier, Silvia Fazzo, Pantelis Golitsis, Gweltaz Guyomarc’h, Annick Jaulin, Claire Louguet, Marwan Rashed.”
