Thematics of research / Seminar / Members / 2018–2022
The "Philosophy of the Mind and Moral Psychology" theme (which merges the previous themes "Ethics and Politics" and "Psychology and Philosophy of the Mind"), brings together research that is at the crossroads, on the one hand, with the philosophy of the mind and psychology and, on the other hand, practical philosophy (ethics and politics). The horizon of the history of the ancient, medieval and Arab sciences makes it possible, in fact, to better understand why and in what sense the practical philosophy is inseparable from the psychological theories of motivation and action (which are partly works by J.-B. Brenet and P.-M. Morel and, among the doctoral students, by T. Gautier and F. Farina on Aristotle, those of A. Peralta on Lucrèce and M. Cassan on the psychology of Seneca). By return, psychology (including the noetic), understood as the study of the faculties of the soul and the properties of the soul-body compound, is directly related to the theory of action, as well as to the confrontation of types of life (practical or contemplative) in the Aristotelian and Platonic traditions and among their heirs. The study of the ancient and medieval theories of the faculties of the soul is thus one of the pivots of this sub-axis and it brings together several researches or activities, like the research program "Memoria" animated by V. Decaix or the researches of J B. Brenet and M. Rogasch on the psychology of Averroes.
- Theories of the memory of Antiquity in the Middle Ages, organized by V. Decaix (GRAMATA-SPHERE)
- The intentional and the real, organized by V. Decaix (GRAMATA-SPHERE) & J. Benoist (University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne-ISJPS-PhiCo-EXeCO)
