    Logic was considered in the Aristotelian tradition as an instrumental discipline ; It was nonetheless an area of learning in its own right. The work of this sub-axis aims to study this discipline in this double aspect and taking into account the specific developments that it experienced in the Greek, Arabic, Hebraic and medieval Latin traditions. Concerning logic as a domain, the following objects of study are favored : the evolution of the syllogistic, the re-elaboration of the topology in its heuristic role, the integration of rhetoric as part of the Aristotelian Organon and the dominant position accorded To the theory of demonstration.     Under this title, it is a matter of confronting the diversity of the first philosophies of antiquity in their relation to science. Whether one considers metaphysics as a science (Aristotelian tradition) or asserts the superiority of the dialectic over any form of positive knowledge (Platonic tradition), we can not independently consider each other’s metaphysics and science .
