Axis Interdisciplinarity in History and Philosophy of Science

The experience of techniques: collections, reconstructions, knowledge and know-how 2019–2020

PRESENTATION

This seminar aims to reflect on the place of history of technical knowledge through the study of technical collections in their most concrete aspects (construction, classification, display devices, catering) while incorporating these artifacts to wider prospects, on the role of materiality and gesture in research and in the transmission of knowledge. We discuss eg the theme of reconstitutions (experimental or numerical) that are increasingly developed as a research tool as well as mediation. We also discuss the importance taken by the fab-lab in university environment, such as that of Paris Diderot. The central theme of the seminar is the arts of making and sensory experience, designed as a participant of intellection process and the construction of subjectivity, in the past as today.
